Rainwater Butt for Garden Plant Water SupplyPractical Rainwater Solutions

Commercial and Agricultural Rainwater Systems

Commercial and Agricultural water consumption is typically metered and incurs significant monthly water bills. The installation of a rainwater harvesting system, can make considerable financial savings to these.

Save Money

Rainwater is a free resource and is not considered an abstraction by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), therefore no licence is required for the collection and use of rainwater.

Avoid Waste

The majority of agricultural and commercial sites have extensive roof area available to collect rainwater from. Furthermore, the same sites often have a huge water requirement for vehicle washing, dust damping, shed wash down, spray water for crops and livestock drinking water.

Simple Systems

Depending on the exact requirements, agricultural and commercial rain water harvesting systems do not need to be complicated and can require little more than a large capacity storage tank (typically 10,000ltr or greater), a basic leaf and grit filter and, if required, a pump for water delivery.

Continuity of Supply

All sites require continuity in water supply and therefore any system installed can be backed up with a mains water feed. Automatic controls will top up the system with mains water when the level of rainwater falls below a pre-set minimum.

Domestic Use of Rainwater

Most people are familiar with garden rainwater collection systems but rain water harvesting for use inside the home is an excellent way of reducing the household demand on mains water.

Tanks

The installation of an external tank above or below ground connected into one or more of your down pipes feeding rainwater from the house roof into your toilets and washing machine may save as much as 50% of your mains water consumption.

Filtration

This can be increased further by the installation of fine particle and UV filtration, thus bringing the harvested water up to potable standard. In such cases, rainwater can be used throughout the house.

Guaranteed all year round provision

Whilst rainwater has a potential to fill the above functions, there will also be sustained dry months when rain-water will not be available for collection. Every domestic system is backed up with a mains water supply guaranteeing all year round provision.

Automation

Automatic controls will ensure mains water will only ever be introduced into a system when the rainwater level falls below a pre-set minimum.
