Rainwater Systems
Rainwater harvesting is simply the collection of water which falls upon your roof.
This is not new technology, but has been replaced in recent times by the reliable mains water supply upon which most of us are now dependent.
Why Harvest Rainwater?
The demand on our already strained mains water supply is rising; by collecting rainwater at source it is possible to significantly reduce this demand.
Rainwater is a valuable resource and in almost all U.K cases it is allowed to disappear down the drain.
It simply doesn’t make sense for the water that falls on our roof to be channelled into costly water treatment plants, brought up to potable standard, and then brought back to you for watering your garden or washing the car.
How Could Rainwater Harvesting System Work for Me?
Rainwater harvesting can be as simple or as complex as you like. It is important to consider a system which will provide the best overall gain for you and for the environment. This does not necessarily mean shooting for excellence, when the cost of such a system may be prohibitive. It is far better to look at a system which is affordable and addresses the key elements of your water usage.
Simple Systems
Depending on the exact requirements, agricultural and commercial rain water harvesting systems do not need to be complicated and can require little more than a large capacity storage tank (typically 10,000ltr or greater), a basic leaf and grit filter and, if required, a pump for water delivery.
Benefits of using Rainwater
* Soft rainwater is more efficient for washing, saving up to 50% on washing powder.
* Washing machines and other domestic appliances don't become furred up with lime.
* No lime scale/salt build up in toilets and urinals.
Using rainwater:
* Helps to alleviate flooding and runoff problems.
* Reduces pressure on the water environment
* Reduces the burden on stretched water supply and sewerage systems.
Economic Advantages:
Using rainwater saves you money on your metered water bill.
